Hello everyone, I would like to know from dev. teams, what is the best old PC or laptop (I`m interesed in windows 10 in my case) configuration for using with myDMX 5 and myDMX 3. I don`t use a Mac, never used one, but maybe it`s ok for the Mac guys to discuss about it too, including everyone. So I have two identical laptops Dell Latitude E7240 made in 2014 or so, configuration: Intel i5 4310U (2.00 Ghz to 2.6 Ghz) ,4Gb and 8Gb respectively of RAM, 128Gb ssd mSata (small physical size, not m2 sata unfortunately) ,integrated graphics (not dedicated graphics card) ,OS: one has Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 version, and the other has Windows 10 Pro version 1511 build 2015. Now comes the interesting questions about the myDMX software: Question 1: Do myDMX 5(and myDMX3) software (and interfaces too) use more CPU(processor) power and RAM memory as you connect more lights and use more channels of the dmx universe? Personally I am not interested in 3D, I`m not using it and I know that 3D obviously will ''eat'' more power from the CPU(processor) ,from RAM memory and graphics, so the question is about using the software and interface without 3D (in my case) . Question 2: If I connect more than 4 lights with 60 channels total (that`s my setup now) will my laptops slow down, will I need newer ones? Question 3: Are myDMX 5 and myDMX 3 softwares ,multi-thread or single-thread operation on the CPU(processor) ,also are they benefiting more from a multi-core processor or from a single core processor? This last question nr.3 was asked because from what I see the newer processors have slower (smaller nr) frequencies vs older processors (example: my i5 gen.4 from 2014 has 2Ghz vs one i5 gen.11 from 2021 that has 1.3 Ghz) but they say that the newer processors are better for multi-thread apps. Sorry about all this ramble here, but I found it interesting to know and because I am thinking of buying the new myDMX5 interface but keep this 2014 made laptops that, by the way, were bought in 2023 second hand (reason: they were cheap: 100 euro a piece and they were top of the line in 2014 coming at 1600 euro back then new unit price, here in my country) and I wanted to know if my laptops would slow down or freeze using, say, just one universe of 512 dmx channels. Thank you and let`s see some opinions and hear for the best.

Hi, i'll try to answer these questions for the devs, as they don't post in forums.
1) Yes, of course, the more lights and the more scenes and the more sequences or steps in scenes will equate to more processing power and RAM usage for sure.
2) I'm fairly sure 60 channels won't eat much by way resources unless the computer is incredibly old(in which case i wont run MyDMX 3.0 or 5 anyways) or has bad drivers and in-effcient updates etc.
3) both software's will always benefit from a multi-core processor and threading.

you can always try the free trial of MyDMX 5 on your 3.0 hardware to try the 5.0 software and see how it performs.

Hello mr. Jingles, thank you for the answers, kind of what I tought but I wanted to be sure that what I think is correct, and what other way to find out if not from the lighting guru mr. Jingles and his team. Much apreciated all the help and answers offered all the time you helped me. I did tried the myDMX 5 the first variant which came out last year (when I upgraded the interface with the new firmware and after the upgrade going back to myDMX 3 didn`t work and I rambled about in the forum) and after that I fixed the issue by downloading the latest fixture profiles from the online library and it works perfectly since then. By the way in that first variant of myDMX 5 I didn`t find out how to stack multiple scenes like in myDMX3 it just didn`t work (maybe it was a bug) ,but I will give it a go with newer variants (I always download new variants from adj.com when they get released and I save them in a folder where I have almost all the variants of myDMX software from 2.1, 3 and 5 and backed them up on some sd cards too Regarding my laptops I wrote about their configuration in the original post, if you can find out if it`s good for myDMX 5 filling one dmx universe and being stable, please let me know. And if it`s ok this post could be a discussion on some diverse configuration Windows and Mac OLD laptops and PCs good for running myDMX5 and 3. NOTE: old meaning some laptops or PCs that are older than 2021 running Windows 10 (preferably) or 7 and Mac (I don`t know, sorry Mac guys, I never owned one) ,everything newer than 2021 I think it runs perfectly the myDMX 5 and 3 so those are not the subject of this post.
