If you don't want to buy gel, you can always cut up those plastic office folders which can usually be purchased on the cheap.

you mean the clear plastic tranparant things?

They make the hazy, cloudy looking ones that are more translucent than transparent.

Any office suppply store should carry them - Staples, Office Depot, etc. Just look in the folder/folio section to see what they have.

Here is one of the best diffusers I ever used:
GBC Impact Frosted Slide'n Bind Report Covers. (10 pack) $6.49, Office Depot. You can add more or less covers to adjust the amount of diffusion you wish to use. I did trim the long side by one and half inches to fit the holder. You can use the metal film holder or not.
