i was just wondering what the best way to clean effect lights is, mine are a bit dirty and not as bright

I'm not an expert, as mine are still nice and clean. I know of a place that cleans all their fixtures once a month, and these things get used darn near 24X7.
Some are different than others, but it seems the general rule is a very soft cotton-fiber cloth and some glass cleaner for lenses, optics, mirrors, reflectors. During their maintenance, some bulbs are routinely replaced even if still functional. For lenses and other items that the beams pass through, they often clean both the inside and outside of those bits. I think they also need to ban smoking in the facility as well as maybe get a cleaner brand of fog juice.

I often use a can of conpressed air, to remove dust from the fan's of my scans. keeps it cool, so my lamplife isn't compromised.
