We're not gonna rehash what was done in previous threads regarding sound active mode, syncing and DMX. My application is a bit different.
Here's the situation. I'm making a scene where I don't really care what happens. I'm going to use MyDMX. My movers are going to do phasing "random" patterns, rotating and indexing both the color wheel and gobos. Ihave other lights that will go into sound active mode as well, and in that case, they will be rotating a color wheel. Both are Chauvet lights(Intimidator Color and Q-Spot 150 in 9 channel 16-bit mode)
This leaves me with types of lights left over, both being ADJ. My Color Fusions and my 64 LED Pro. Both are in 7-channel DMX mode.
I'm going to toss all the 64 LED Pros into Sound Active mode, values to vary between 224 and 255 on their DMX channel 6, and Channel 5 will also vary, values yet to be determined. For those not in the know, channel 6 with that value range will throw the unit into sound active mode, then Channel 5 will control how much sound sensitivity.
My questions are in regards to Channels 1,2,3 and 7. 1,2&3 control RGB respectively, and 7 controls overall dimming. Do I need to even bother with these channels in sound active?
Likewise, with the Color Fusions, 1,2&3 control RGB respectively, and Channel 5 controls dimming. But channel 7, values 224-255 go into sound active mode. If I throw these into sound active mode, do I even need to worry about those channels?
If I read these manuals correctly, each light will respond to sound on its own.
I'm NOT concerned about syncing colors. The idea is just random chaos. An appearance of a total lack of control. I don't care if the colors mash together and it looks like a "technical color yawn" going on up there, it truly doesn't matter. In this case, a lack of syncronization works in my favor because it's just for filler anyways. The worse case scenario is that it doesn't work the way I think it will work, and then I have to tweak it then and there.
Note, I'm not comparing the Chauvet manuals to the ADJ manuals. I haven't gone over the Chauvet manuals yet, but since their fixtures are simpler, most of these issues are somewhat moot with their fixtures. I'm also not comparing quality or performance of the Chauvet fixtures with the ADJ. I'm not using like for like fixtures, so a fair comparison is not possible. However, I've said it before, it may cost me a bit more, and maybe sometimes I have to give up a little bit of something I may want, but I'm buying ADJ lights from now on.
Oh, and not that it matters, but I won't be using the Color Fusions or the Intimidator Color at this event. But I'm programming the scene anyways.
