MyDMX can be used to sync music to something else, but it requires the operator to have perfecting timing to hit the first cue properly and the designer/programmer to have perfect timing for the display. Even so, you need to expect some degree of drift and expect the whole thing to go out of whack at some point in time.

Honestly though, MyDMX doesn't have any real sync functionality outside of luck and programming skill.

I've been using Compu Show recently, and I know that supports what you want. I also think there are some lower-cost software options available that might do the same thing. I think the Compu Live package can also support this sort of functionality.

Now, if you're not worried about sync, you can easily take TDK's advise, it SHOULD work quite well if your lights can cooperate with that. Some lights have to be on for a bit before special function bulbs are engaged. Dimmer or switcher packs can also be controlled via MyDMX if you want a more controlled situation.

If you're trying to do one of those rock opera style over the top displays like you see on YouTube, well, let me say this: it takes a LOT of hidden gear in addition to LOTS of hidden wiring(you want your display to be nice looking at all levels) in addition to lots of work. Timing your show properly for a single song, while difficult, is NOT impossible, using MyDMX. I did an entire 2 hour performance to a movie with my regular lighting(for concerts) using MyDMX and it's so tight I can simply scoot away once the show starts. I don't recommend myself doing that, but it's a possibility.
