Hey everyone!,
Listen I need som opinions. I am doing a big talent show in a couple of weeks where the theme is kinda like the hot series American Idol. Anyway..they have mee as their lighting guy. As of right now I have a system put together with
4 Elation stage colors, 4 C*oemar ProSpots, trrussing, other random ADJ effects, show designer 2D etc. I had a question. Instead of going with 4 moving yoke effects, do you think I should go with 2 moving yokes and 2 moving mirror effects like the Joy 300, or Tr*ckspot etc. What is your opinion? I will try to explain to you what I have going on:
P=Pr*spot S=Stage Color M=Mirror Effect.

P S P S P S P S (adj effect as well)
or should I do something like
P S M S M S P S
What do you think..is it worth it to get 2 mirror effects for some more diversity? Also a note I probably won;t be allowed to use fog.

well if your lighting is going to be over the crowd or behind them, I would definetly stick 2 moving heads. These fixtures will make you seem more professional and they just straight up look cool. While the people are coming in, you could slowly scan 2 or 4 moonflowers, just for a nice ambience. Hope all goes well!
If you can 4 moving heads would be nice. Otherwise use fairly powerful moving mirrors. i.e. Technobeams, Vision 250s, or even the new TS2s. You want probably at least 3000-4000lumens outa the moving mirrors.

Not being able to use fog is a real let down. With such nice lighting, its difficult to see without some particles in the air. Is it dusty? Wink
I am trying to convince the school in letting me use haze possibly. The problem with the fog/haze is at the location the smoke alarms are real high tech and pickup almost anything. If the alarms should happen to go off during the show it costs the venue like $2000 for a false alarm call. Maybe they can shut the alarms off in the room where the event will be? You never know...I am probably going to stick with the 4 moving heads. Thanks again,

Cutting off the alarms will violate fire code, that would never fly. However, a couple years ago they revamped my old highschool and got all new state of the art alarms. I had the auditorium so smokey that I couldn't see my friend standing 5 feet away. A water based for machine will not set off any conventonal smoke detector.

Although they might not let you, if you end up, do not hold back due to concerns, a water based fog will not trip detectors. Roll Eyes

Actually that;s probably the reason why they wont; let me use fog because I used a water based fog fluid in my machine and got the room so foggy that you could not see the other end. And suer enough the alarms went off. That;s interesting that it has not caused any problems for you. I guess you are lucky!
i was testing my fog machine with my home made fog chiller in my room (how stupid was that, it left that sticky grimy stuff all over the place) and for awhile i let the fog just float to the ceiling (like it would with out the chiller) and it set off my smoke alarm outside my room. And my door was shut. It doesn't matter what type of fog you are using, its all about how sensitive the smoke detectors are.
