cable gauge...

I was about to buy bunch of power cables for the lights and dimmers I've got on the way to me right now, and I see that I can buy these cables in 16 or 12 gauge versions. Any reason why I should buy one or the other? These will be going between the dimmers and the wall, and also between the lights and the dimmers.

And also, if I could slip in a newbie question... since my lighting setup has not arrived yet, how long are the power cables coming out of the lights, in my case the ADJ Par-38Bs?

I think the best way to go would be 12 gauge power cables, just for that added protection against any kind short.
I have Par38-B's and the cable comin out of it is about 4 feet long, judging by the fact I cant have one on the edge of the truss and have its power cable reach into the T4 controller at dead center. (10' truss) Hopefully this helps.

Cords between the dimmer packs and the pars do not need to be heavy gauge at all. Just reliable. So there you can save some money...

Shop around and try to find some black extension cords. Black cable looks way more professional than orange or yellow.
