As the subject line suggests, I'm trying (more like rabidly fighting) to add some basic (maybe a few moving heads) DMX capability to an existing dimmer system for my school. I have a few people, including the band director's, support, and this year I plan to get someone to notice.
I call this a "dumb" system due to the fact that the contollers are severely outdated, especially the board, one that was alread obsolete when it was purchased. That thing is just near the end. I've found several boards that suit our needs, but, of course, these boards hit into the thousands of dollars. I've been using ADJ lighting for a really long time, and when i got my new product catologue, i was very interested in the Scene Setter 48. It seems like it will be comparable to our setup, while adding DMX and 12 more channels.
Our current system:
Varalight Composer , a 32-channel, 512 dimmer analog board, running signal to 4 racks of Varalight/Dimtronics dimmer packs.
If i can get a system capable of DMX integration while keeping the current setup relativly unchanged (preferably without the old board) with as low of a price as possible, I may stand a chance. Even if i get this into the plans for a new auditorium (which will begin construction AFTER i graduate), i'll be happy.
Can anyone help me on this? What will be required to change, and how much of a change are we looking at? is there a simpler solution, short of simply renting the DMX system when needed?
feel free to email me. please,a ll help is greatly appreciated!
