It's nice that you had fun (if I had seen this earlier, I would have said hello) but the fact still remains that ADJ have left all the owners of the original VMS4 in the lurch.

Rather than help us out, based on the mk1 being not 'fit for its intended purpose', they really expect us to just pay out even more money for the 'fixed' version?

I think most mk1 VMS4 owners will never buy an ADJ product again!

i honestly do not agree. the vms fits its intended purpose. ADJ even sent out the mic fits for free, so how can you say they werent helpful?

the successor now has better hardware, yes. that's why it is a successor. the next thing is always improved. be it software or hardware or whatever.
Freshy, it's obvious that you'll defend ADJ because of your links with the company, but the fact is, the very first original "Velocity" model that was shown being used at trade shows before release, had better internal hardware too, but it was downgraded prior to general release - which is why the touch strips became unusable for searching (as seen in the early videos).

So chances are that the VMS4s you've used contain the original, better, hardware anyway because you've been in from the start.

The mic adaptors were a bodge. A cheap 'fix' so that ADJ could get away without having to modify circuits in hundreds of VMS4s.

Look back at all the issues people have found with the VMS4. Distortion, low output, bad assembly, loose connections and so on.

How can you possibly say that's fit for purpose?

Even if I had paid HALF the price, I would be disappointed in the quality!

i dont need to defend anything. i've been using 4 or 5 different vms4's - beta devices AND series devices.

errrrm, this is a fact? who says so? i dont think that's true, at least i never heard about it before.

see above. i've been using 2-3 devices that came from different times of mass production.

i've been using it in several clubs under several conditions, let alone all the workshops with kids i used it and i can honestly say: it fits its purpose. yes, there is room for improvement, but that's always the case.

given the price and being the first one on the market with a hybrid mixer i'm more than satisfied.

Well I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed here at least once. I also heard it from the ADJ employee who came to my house when I first reported the problems.

I'm actually amazed that you have not noticed any issues with the original VMS4. For example, it is SO easy to make it overload and distort the output.

This is one of the things that I demonstrated to the ADJ guy at my house, and he confirmed it.

i really have doubts about that and will ask about that. definitely cannot confirm so far!

sure, the output could be louder - that's why they cahnge it for the 4.1, but while it's a weakness of the original vms4 it's no K.O. at all and it was always possible to use it by not overdriving it.

Well you probably remember quite well, the early VMS4 demonstration videos from trade shows, where the touch strips were being used to scroll up and down in the browser window. I think it was you who did the demo.

When the unit finally did come out, many users tried to map this function and found it did not work (or worked poorly).

I questioned an Atomix employee (in charge of hardware mapping) and he told me that touch strip scrolling could not be implemented because ADJ had changed the internal spec of the touch strips.

the only non-series device i used was that at musikmesse 2010, obviously because there was no series device back then.

the touch strips are a bit ticklish to use - but they were in the pre-series device exactly as in the series devices i've been using ever since.

so what does that tell?
only that VDJ could not interpret the way there is midi sent and traktor does!
