I've now started my collection of LED hardware. Bought 8 of the 64B LED Pro.

Boy that is a pretty tight beam. I'm now worried that the beam is too focused on these.

I seem to recall seeing a "diffuser plate" option somewhere on the ADJ website.

I suppose I can also experiment with various sheets of textured clear Plexiglas.

Also, the beam seems to be very "hot" in the center. It would be nice if the brightness were more balanced across the disc of illumination. Probably not too much you can do about this due to the LED components available from component manufacturers.

Hmm, I suppose plastic fresnel lenses could do the job, clipped into the gobo/gel frame.

Thin plastic fresnels have been commonly used in overhead projectors for the past 40 years, though I'll have to see if I can find custom powers of them.

A more extreme and permanent solution would be for me to slightly reshape the optical faces of each of the LEDs by hand, with a custom shaped spinning polishing tool. I do suspect that this just might POSSIBLY void the warranty however.. ;-)

Perhaps you would want to consider putting diffusers on only some of them, and leaving others as they are.

The diffusers will significantly wash out the light, which will reduce the focused intensity, which will be perceived as reduced brightness.

If you keep a mixture, you will cover more space and provide more 'pop' for focused areas of light in the same area. It'll probably be the best way to maximize what you want with what you have.

Here is one of the best diffusers I ever used:
GBC Impact Frosted Slide'n Bind Report Covers. (10 pack) $6.49, Office Depot. You can add more or less covers to adjust the amount of diffusion you wish to use. I did trim the long side by one and half inches to fit the holder. You can use the metal film holder or not.
