ok, got a kinda geeky question, (i love chem.) how many different types of blubs (gas filliments) are there, i've heard of the halogen but what is exactaly in a halogen bulb b/c on the peridoic table, the halogens is an entire family of gases, and how does the grease and oils on human skin take away life from the bulbs?

Well, like I said, it was brand new, so unless someone from the factory touched it, I don't understand why it blew.

Is this a common problem with this fixture???

Right now I'm terrified Eeker I'm out a $100/bulb, and I haven't used it once!!!

What happens is the oils from your skin are on the bulb. As the light heats up the oils burn through the glass. Once the bulb is compromised, it is shot.
