i have a lotus and an agreesor, yup it suppose to spin when you first plug it in and than stop unless there is music playing than it would start spinning again. and with the noise its normal, i know it sounds like high pitch grounding noise or something but thats normal. When you play music it'll drown out the noise of the unit. just make sure you cool it down once in a while. adj recommends every 15 minutes on 15 minutes off...have fun

I believe the actual duty cycle is 10 minutes on, and 10 minutes off. At least that's what mine is. and yes it does move when first turned on, and the noise will drown out with the music. You won't be using this light without music anyway, at least I don't think so. There is a audio sensitivity knob on the back of the unit also to control its movement.
The noise is normal! Especially as it ages! The axis inside that allows the bulb to spin has a conductor that rubs up against a copper ring! As this spins the copper becomes less slick and makes almost a grinding sound! Now there is nothing wrong with the light and thats just how it was built! The same conductors are used in lights such as the Vertigo, Mystic, Avenger, and so on! But nothing to worry about!
