I recently bought an Aggressor Tri-LED as a centerpiece for my basement light set but I have not been impressed by the sound sensitivity of this unit.

Even with the frequency knob turned all the way up it needs a sound level of 94dB (measured at the unit) to react continuously which is pretty freaking loud. At a lesser volume (of say 90dB) the unit will light and move once, then hold until the LEDs shut off - it will usually then repeat this cycle. The frequency knob also seems to have little effect as long as it is between 20 and 100%.

I have several other sound reactive lights which all react fully between 80 and 85dB at max sensitivity. This of course means I can use them more frequently since they don't require nightclub like sound levels.

Can any owners of this light tell me if this seems normal for this unit?

Thanks, Dave

I don't have this unit, but I have the following suggestions:

Have you tried turning the sensitivity DOWN? Just a thought. Probably won't do what you want. One never knows. Just try it.

Either awy, put your finger or thumb over the microphone opening. Does it freak it out and it starts moving a lot or changing on its own? that's a good sign. Not doing that? Try moving to the other extreme on the sensitivity.

Now try things and see how it goes.

Yeah, 94db is pretty loud. But, it should be more or less inline with what your other sound active lights are responding do, within reasonable limitations(say, 3db either way).

If nothing at each extreme end of the sensitivity works, if it's under 30 days, take it back and exchange it.
Chris,

Sensitivity makes little or no difference - at 94dB 50-100% equals decent activity, 20-50% equals sporadic activity, 0-20% equals nada.

Covering the mic doesn't seem to do anything, although applying pressure with finger tip will ensure reaction (hard to judge pressure required - but not just barely touching it).

If it had been purchased through a local retailer it would have gone back already, but since I couldn't find it locally it was purchased through an online vendor. Looks like I am right at 30 days from shipping date today.

My other sound reactive lights are much more sensitive like Vue 1.1 @ 80dB min or RGB4000 strobe around 85dB min. That is quite a difference.

All you should need to do is cover the microphone, no additional pressure is required.

Based on your latest information, it's sounding like you've got a bad microphone. I would contact ADJ for an RMA and go get it sent off for repairs. But, since you're on the phone with support, see if they have any other ideas for you to try out, just in case.

This is one of the issues with buying mail order or at least from a non-local vendor or merchant is that you just don't have the same options. I'm not discouraging this, I bought 8 64 LED Pros this way and I'm super pleased with them.

On the positive side, ADJ's support is excellent.
