I'm getting ready to start a mobile DJ company that will cater to weddings, college banquets, corporate events, etc.

I have most of the necessary audio equipment, but I'm stuck on what light packages to consider. I'm trying to find something that's affordable but still complements the vibe of a classy wedding, etc.

My budget is under $500. Any suggestions?

There aren't many good options to make an impact for less than $500. The only ADJ light package of which I am aware for that little uses incandescent lights (which you won't want to use in the long run). Hopefully your DJ company will do well enough that you can step up to ADJ or Elation lights soon.

In the meantime, something that does a pretty good job and will be useful over the long run is the KAM Parbar. For a cheap LED light set it puts on a pretty good show using its foot controller. Check this out:

Later you can include it in a DMX set up and control each light separately. Even better it is REALLY portable and easy to set up.

You will have to order it from an English distributor. Don't worry about the spec that says it needs 220 volts, 50hz. I use one of these and just plug it straight into US outlets and they work great.
My object was not to plug KAM products (I have no financial or other interest in that company), I was trying to help a fellow light guy achieve his goals. In fact I complemented ADJ and Elation in the post as being superior products to which he should aspire.

There are advantages and disadvantages to ADJ for its forums to be viewed as honest and open discussions of lighting problems and possibilities [an environment in which ADJ products should fair very well]; and there are advantages and disadvantages to ADJ for its forums to viewed as strictly a promotional and help vehicle for ADJ products.

I didn't know which philosophy ADJ pursues. I often see references to other brands in this forum. I will not offended if you delete my post, and if it violates the forum rules I would encourage you to do so.
Hey Hobson, you know what it's all good. I was in a crabby mood when I first read your post. And yes I agree the forums is a good vehicle for a new lighting hobbyist to come and get a wealth of information and sometimes that can include other brands. I myself am NOT a ADJ sales Rep or anything. I am Tech support. While I understand that not every single user on these forums solely buys ADJ/AA, that would just be ignorant. If somebody blatantly tells a new user looking to get started to skip ADJ and go to a different company, that is where I have to step in. But keep in mind instead of KAM he could go with Eliminator Lighting which is also under the ADJ group umbrella. Big Grin But yes Theodore is free to buy what they want as is everyone else.
Hope this post makes sense.
Sincerely,
You could buy 2 of the Revo series and use them on music mode till you get a controllor.

Great lights that fill up a room for little money. Check out the American Dj Lighting site.

Can't go wrong with the Revo series as a starter set.

If you guys have spent much time on here, you will know that I only use ADJ and Elation lights. that being said, I always request the up to date catalogs and find that the bundles that ADJ puts together are not that good at all. Yeah I realize that it is supposed to be a quick cheap starter kit but not that good at all. I highly recommend getting the REVO 4 and maybe some wash lights just for color. I think that would be something that wont break the bank and yet put up a good light show.
I tend to agree with los is stealth. The starter kits aren't all that great UNLESS you're doing some sort of HOUSE PARTY and control isn't really all that important to you. If you're throwing parties in your house and just want to liven it up a bit with some inexpensive lights, then these starter packages are pretty good for the money and for what you get.

It's better that you think where you want to be, what you want to do and then decided what you must have to get started. Then build your own bundle to your specs. You'll waste less money and get a better return on your investment.

I suggest you start looking through the ADJ web site, order a catalog and DVD, watch the DVD while making notes in the catalog, and keep asking questions here.
