Do you have the videos on this stuff or anywhere you can go and see them. while I wont knock the competition. At American DJ we pride ourselves in offering more value for the money. Things like separate color and gobo wheels for the same price others offer only a single wheel. Our service after sale is one of the best in the industry. the Concept is not available until January it has the advantage of built in move ments that you select using a separate channel. you could have the same movement with different color gobo combo in a snap. If you could wait I would choose that one. I shot the videos for these lights and was impressed with the fast movement of the concept. one more thing if you can swing it would be get the Concept 2 you will save the difference on lamp replacement over it's lifetime.
I myself like to be able to control both color and gobos. Which the MX-1 cuts out. it only has one color/gobo wheel. The MX-4 on the other hand gives you the ability to control both. If you want to go all out M****n has come out with the MX-10 which has rotating gobos and a prism also i think. Anyways depending on your budget I would probably go with the Concept light. Haven't seen them in action yet but heard only good about them. I myself think that M****n overprices their items.
I think that the new concept l;ights look great... my friend who was a dj did have a big problem when one of his mx4's dropped (gasp)!
****** did nothing to help and he paid fo r repairs... i on the other hand recived FREE repairs even after the so called warrenty.. ADJ has the best after sale support.. trust me
Budget wise, the Concepts sound like the best option, bang for your buck. I have seen them and I did like. The laser thing was a nice thought but its just wasnt strong enough to stand out.

The MX-1 are not super great. I have 4 of them and I do love them and all but there are much better things, like the MX-4s. I also have 2 of them and they are very nice. If budgets is not a huge issue I am not too sure why the list is limited to those 4 choices. Like the MX-4 or if you want to stay AMDJ, the Ultra 250s are pretty sweet. I have seen 6 of them in action. Very slick. Kinda heavy though.

MX-10s will cost you about $1000 a pop, good alternative to a miniMAC, witch is a little over $1000 as well. The MX-10 is basically a MAC 250 thats been taken off the yoke and given the fastest mirror on the market. Its also a big sucker. Not recommended for small time operations.

Service, oh boy. This is prolly going to get deleted, but oh well.
I have had no problems with M****n service. I had a ballast issue with my miniMAC. I called them and they told me to head over to the local M****n office here in Vegas. The tech dropped what he was doing to run a diagnostic on my light. There was a defective ballast. That day they sent out a new mini from Florida and in 3 days I had a new mini at my door.
AMDJ, I had issues with one of my DJ scans, the lateral stepper motor was having problems. i called them to get is fixed. i spent for ever on the phone with them. I sent it in, under warranty, to get fixed. It took over a month to get it back.

I use a computer based software controller.
But any DMX 512 controller should be able to control the MX scanners. I have a DMX Operator and I am able to control them with that. Does your Show Designer work with any other fixtures? And what do you mean by it wont program them? Is it that the controller isnt playing back what you want or is the controller not controlling the lights at all?
Make sure that you have everything addressed correctly.
