Hi All

I guess this post is directed to ADJ themselves unless someone else can shed some light on this issue

I am buying 1x ADJ Revo Sweep & 2x ADJ JellyFish from the UK to be sent to me in Australia...i was shopping around via emails and phone calls to the UK and got an email back from a seller of Adj Products which read ...
"Thank you for your email, unfortunately we currently do not have the jellyfish lights in stock as there was a batch fault on the item when they arrived"

What i would like to know....Is this statement from a seller in my email correct about there being a batch fault with jellyFish?. and if it is correct what happened to those faulty JellyFish...it is a long way for my Adj Lights to come to Australia and i'm not sure if i'll even get a warantee with them as i am purchasing them from the UK...but at least i would hope that if there was an issue with the first batch...how do i make sure that the seller in UK is sending me 3 items that are not of the first batch if they were faulty?

Hope You Can Help Me With This Issue

KInd Regards
Mike

I can't speak for anyone other than myself and past experiences with electronics in general, including stuff I had more than just the hand in the development of.

Components are bought in large quantities to get prices lower. Plus, many parts are used in multiple products, which again, leads to big bulk purchases. This is all basic "economies of scale" type stuff, boring crap that will put you to sleep.

Now, components tend to be made in batches. These batches tend to be logged and tracked by both the maker and the buyer. Due to a wide variety of reasons(mainly Chinese cutting corners, sorry, but it's a fact), a batch may come through with a higher than acceptable fail rate, despite tests that show acceptable/QC passing. Often, when an end-product company, ADJ being just an exmaple of such a company, finds out such things such as bad batch, they may choose to recall any fixtures with serial numbers that could be affected by this bad batch because it can be cheaper to do this than wait for end users to start shipping their items for RA's.

This happens with cars, it happens with computers, it happens with components, and it can happen with food, chemicals and virtually any product.

Does the Jellyfish suffer from a bad batch? I can't say. Now, two things to take into consideration: 1, I am definately an ADJ and Elation product fan, so my views may be somewhat biased, and 2, I have experienced similar things with different products.

What can I say though? Let's say this is the truth. If I'm trying to get something under a hard time crunch, this becomes an issue which could really anger me. If I am not under time concerns, then it at least explains why something is not arriving promptly and the matter is resolved. This is me looking at how I would deal with the matter as an end user. I also would rather wait for a proper product then have to deal with the inconvenience of an RA and shipping, downtime and turn-around.

Now, coming as a product reseller: I'd be angry as this can cost me orders and money because I got angry clients who may cancel orders because of this.

Coming as someone who has helped design and engineer a product from the ground up, I take personal offense to "my product" being made with products not up to my spec, causing me to start screaming and getting in the fact of the president and CEO of the company.

Regardless, unless we have total control of all aspects down to every last microscopic detail(which is impossible), this sort of thing will happen from time to time.
Hi

Thanx Chris for your reply...although i still would like a reply from ADJ to say whether there was a Batch Fault or not...it's no problem if i have to wait a little extra for reasons of maybe recalls on items etc...but if there isnt a fault then i would know it's a seller who's messing me around with an order i have placed

A Response Would Be Appreciated

Kind Regards
Mike
Yes, I know how. One of the recent spammers gave me an opportunity to learn how to do this.

Right now I'm rather busy redoing my office, doing my wife's job(and mine) and trying to get a ton of other goodies done. I'll move it in a bit. I gotta crack open my web server in a few minutes and find the failing fan(s) and replace them.

You don't know the insanity I've been dealing with in regards to computers over here. I wasted HOURS last night thinking I had a bad PSU when it was a bad USB panel with a bad ground shorting to chassis that was prevening start-up. Threw that bit away, and all is good. I was up until 4AM working on that.... Today I just made my main machine a dual-monitor machine. I wanted triple, but it turns out that's not a possibility. Oh well.

3 hours of sleep last night as a result. I'm staying mostly OFF the web forums today so I don't snap someone's head off.

I'm actually interested in seeing what Mikelly has to say in regards to the issue at hand. If my vendor lied to me, I would be ANGRY!! I always prefer the truth, even if it is not in my favor. Speaking of truth, time to see why Chauvet hasn't shipped my replacement parts a month ago, and I have a show in less than 2 weeks.

Is it any wonder why I stick with ADJ and Elation products? All the good stuff, none of the bad stuff. The others need to watch and learn.
