I had this happen with a cheap DMX-capable fogger at a show to the point where I had to make a big decision and take it out of the show. I could control when and amount, but then it would just fire forever out of nowhere.

Take it home and test it again under controlled circumstances. Same show, my hazer would not respond to DMX, yet would pass DMX(I was able to control a dimmer pack past the hazer). Similar results: I would have to power off and power it back on and then the pattern would repeat.

When I took my hazer home, I fired it up and tested it: works fine. Must be a loose connector or something on the logic board.

Other than this, what are your opinions on this fogger? I have a need for a moving head fogger, which would replace the cheap one I had to deal with(cheap fogger isn't mine). I'm strongly considering one of these.
Well, I stick behind my advise to re-test in a controlled environment. Who knows what the issues is/was.

I think at my last big show, there was some "ghost in the wire" issue. I'm re-testing the hazer again weekly starting this week. That's going to be part of my routine maintenance now will be running all foggers a few hours a month.

I'd like a better review of the AccuFog, but you know, other than your problem, I like what yo said. Most of my blasts will be short, but I have a few times where I need to shoot down. One show needs ups, across, outs and downs. Since I can't rely on a ninja stagehand to deal with it, this is my ideal solution.

Let me know how "home testing" goes.
