Yes:
Set up the lights with power off.
I have 4 of the Mega Bar 50's, and since I won't be setting them up during most events(my crew does), I labelled them 1,2,3,4 and they go from house left to right across the stage evenly spaced. He then chains the power and DMX(we're not ON yet), then I finally hook up power after checking his work(I'm also training, that's why I am checking his work).
Power tends to get run last, so power waits.
Never once had a problem.
With my movers, of which I have 2, they are also labelled with channel and how to orient them. The panel for these is recessed and the chances of being hit accidentally is slim to none.
My two identical follow spots are also labelled, but as they sometimes get reverse, there is a second label that states the address of the other light. My crew can just switch addresses quickly. Saves time.
As far as my 4 Mega Panel's, they are configured in a manner where as long as the right position is aimed at the stage, the rest is fine, but they are also labelled with their addresses just in case. With a power strip installed on the 5-foot span of i-beam trussing these 4 are mounted on, again, power goes on last.
With my 8 ADJ 64 LED Pros, I have them mounted 4/T-bar. The T-Bar is labeled with the lighting addresses, as well as the end caps have labels saying which side is DMX IN and OUT. There is also a tag that says which direction points at the stage. With a power unit connected to the T-Bar, again, the lights go up with the power off.
I have the advantage of being able to refer back to MyDMX if I need to re-discover what addresses my lights should be using.
Label, be careful and apply your power last and you'll be fine.
