First time poster!! I am a newbie to My Dmx, but am trying to learn the ins and outs (not easy for a 50 year old). Anyway, I am making pretty good progress, and have even created some of my own fixture profiles. However, I am a little perplexed on the one I am making for a moving head. I bought four 12 channel wash moving heads by te-lighting that I have created a profile for, but when I try to input the tilt and pan angles, I get the error message that says that they don't work for this type of fixture. The default settings work, but can't I restrict how much they will tilt and pan? These will be used for a rock band, and I don't the fixtures to be able to rotate 360 degrees. The light fixture itself can be programmed to restrict the range, so can't I tell My Dmx that I want to make the pan 180 degrees and the tilt 90 degrees?

If it helps, the manual for these lights can be viewed at http://www.te-lighting.com/eng...318RGB%20washPro.pdf

Thanks in advance for any advice. I hope my question makes sense.

Jingles,

Thanks for the fast response. I had already watched the video that you sent me, and it was helpful in designing profiles, but it didn't help with my problem. When I attempt to change the default values of the pan and tilt, a get the message "Problems appeared. - Pan and tilt angles are not compatible with the selected type of fixture." I do not get a pop up box that allows me to confirm the problem. It won't save the profile. In essence, what I want to do is restrict the range of the pan and tilt. Do I have to do something else, such as create a preset? I am not quite sure what that would do.

Thanks!
Perhaps I can better explain what my issue is as there may be an easier fix. When I go into the Fx generator, and want the moving heads to say, all go in a circle, it ends up going out towards the audience, then looping around and aiming at the back of the stage. I want the lights to make a pattern all out front towards the audience. I am guessing that I can align the dots on the grid so that it will go where I want it to. If that is the case, I am not sure that I understand the grid. Does that make sense?
Well, this is where my lack of experience is showing. The fixtures are capable of 540 degree pan and 270 degree tilt so obviously this is not where I need to fix the problem. What I am trying to do is keep the movement of the lights facing forward. I do not want them making circles so that they end up shooting the light towards the back wall behind the band. I want the lights to always face the audience. Every time I try to use the effects generators it ends up doing 360 degree circles. So how do I tell it not to use such a wide range of motion?

BTW, do you ever sleep? :-)
Well it's not the profile that determines where it pan and tilts too. so even if you were able to modify that then it would still go wide because that is what the actual fixture is programmed to do. The pan and tilt angle entries is for the 3D object in the 3D.

In the picture above is the EFx gen. on the pan/tilt effect tab. you'll see i have circle selected and i also have that crosswith the arrowheads on the ends selected. With that arrowheaded cross selected i am able to move the entire shape and resize it and move it around the pan and tilt grid you see there. simply click on the red borders around the corners to re size and click on the shape itself to move around. That should solve your issue.
Yes I do sleep. But usually from about 2-4am until 11am in Wi where i am from. however we have the weekends labor day off. :0
Sincerely,
Okay, now I get it. In one of my earlier post, I referenced the grid, but wasn't sure if that was answer. After reading your last post and playing around with the points, I got it to do what I want. I think I understand the concept a little better. As a newbie, I am actually surprised at how much I have been able to get done so far. My Dmx is pretty easy, yet still does a lot. I have only downloaded the software so far, but am purchasing the product today. The forum support really makes me feel comfortable with my purchase decision. Many thanks, Jingles! Happy Labor Day!
