It sounds like you have a bad pitch fader or bad connection to your pitch fader.

I doubt that reloading the firmware will fix the issue with your VMS4.1, but you can definitely give it a try. What is the current firmware on your VMS4.1? (Count the number LED's on the DB meter when powering up the mixer)
