Denon has been using the rubber buttons for decades, and I never hear of issues or experienced issues with them, although I can see your concern. And the platter is a solid metal platter like on the ProScratch 2, the CDI500 & cdi500mp3 as well as the VSM4, and Velocity players. There is just a texorized coating on it more like the CDI series. I can vouch for the durability of the platters.

PS. American Audio used the rubber buttons before on the ProScratch series, and I can say they feel alot better than the plastic buttons on the CDI's.
