Lights in a dishwasher?

Okay, this might sound like a slightly strange question, but has anyone ever used a dishwasher to clean light housings (not the entire assembled unit)? At first I know this sounds like a terrible idea and an excuse not to do work, but the more I think about it it's not that bad of an idea. The unit I really have in mind is the face plate of an old Razz Matazz. I really don't want to pop all 32 lenses out to clean and risk not being able to pop them back in. Being an all-metal halogen unit I'm not worried about heat. Rust would be my only concern, but other than being dirty the unit is in great shape. Any thoughts?
