Hi, to answer your first post, if you want plug and play you can just use the demo file but delete those fixtures and patch in your own, or load up the demo but choose presets only for when it asks what to load. and yes as soon as you have lights that have strobe or color mixing etc the side buttons should work, some fixtures with only a color wheel may not react to some of the side buttons.

To answer your 2nd post, you should not need to have any downward pressure to simply turn the knobs for the settings to adjust with the turn.
